Imagine a world where decisive action on global warming shuts down traditional factories and conventional systems for producing food, clothing, and shelter. What would we do? What can we do?

 

Material designer and artist Stella Harry Lee approaches these weighty questions with curiosity and creativity, using lighthearted experimentation to conceptualize solutions without claiming to have all the answers. 

 

In this conversation and show & tell, Stella will share her latest unconventional material experiments, including fish skin and algae, highlight past projects, and invite guests into an open discussion on navigating uncharted creative and ecological waters.

 

The goal of the evening is not to present a final solution, but to spark inspiration and inquiry on how to get started.

ARTIST BIO

Stella Harry Lee is an independent material and product designer exploring the future of materials and our evolving relationship with them. She studied fiber arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art and later worked as a corporate designer at Nike and Victoria’s Secret, where she learned to think deeply about the products we create and why. Motivated by the growing challenges of consumerism in the context of the climate crisis, her latest work shifts focus toward biodegradable and bio-based materials such as seaweed, algae yarn, mycelium, and fish skin. By incorporating these innovative materials into her designs, her work aims to connect the fields of science research and consumer product design, making cutting-edge innovations more accessible and relevant to the market.
