About the workshop:
Dive into the world of biomaterials and textiles in this introductory hands-on workshop led by Oakland-based material designer, technologist, and artist Olivia Cueva. Whether you’re a designer, maker, or simply passionate about circular practices, this workshop is your gateway to crafting textiles that will safely return to the earth.

Learn how to transform everyday biopolymers such as seaweed and gelatin into regenerative textiles that can become anything from garments to accessories and art.

WIth Olivia, you'll explore the principles and tools of bioplastic textiles, design and cast your own eco-friendly shapes and samples, experiment with natural dyes, and leave with a one-of-a-kind piece made from the materials you've developed.

Workshop agenda:

  • Presentation: Intro to biomaterials and bioplastic textiles; uses in craft and fashion applications
  • Bio Textiles Part I: Learn how to work with seaweed based bioplastics
  • Break & BYO Lunch
  • Bio Textiles Part II: Learn how to work with protein-based bioplastics
  • Create your own pouch from bioplastic textiles

Takeaways:

  • Gain practical experience with bio-based, biodegradable materials
  • Learn where your materials come from—tracing their journey from land to textile
  • Experiment, play, and expand your creative practice

Tickets are nonrefundable but you can transfer them to a friend. Let us know if you can't make it and we can also try to share the availability.
